Ng Hock San wins Ambassador's Cup.

Rene Pascual writes...

Hello everyone,

What a fantastic day we had at Gulf Harbour Golf & Country Club.  The event was full of superlatives!

  • The weather was at its best on a glorious Sunday morning.
  • We had the highest turnout ever in any golfing competition organised by any Filipino group in NZ - how about that!
  • With blue skies the golf course offered the best panoramic views in Auckland.
  • We had seen the largest winning margin in a matchplay competition ever - oops sorry, had to say that.

Congratulations to the winners of the Ambassadors Cup.

1st place - Ng Hock San, 42 pts
2nd place - Ming Tiang, 38 pts via count back
3rd place - Still Mark, 38 pts

Best Gross - Jason Cheok at 77
Nearest the Pin - Fr. Mar Dorado
Longest Drive - Jason Cheok

Buaya Award - Ng Hock San, for winning with the largest margin on the matchplay.  We will watch this guy's handicap for sure!

Horse's Ass - Joseph Aranas, kicked hard for being on the receiving end of the buaya.  Return the favour next time Joseph!

Congratulations to the Malaysian Team for winning the Matchplay Competition.

It was a tremendous victory for the Malaysians as they came home beating the Philippine team 13.5 vs 4.5 points.  While it may sound almost like a whitewash (it was, duh!) a lot of the matches were hotly contested all the way to the last couple of holes.  They have now taken the Philippine-Malaysia n Cup for the third time - first in 2002 and then in 2008.

Thanks to Francis Chai for organising and spearheading the Malaysian Team.

Thanks to I-Remit for sponsoring the trophies.

Thanks to El Secretary Raybert and Sam for organising the trophies and awards.

Thanks to Ex Presidente Alex for helping liaise with Gulf Harbour and the Malaysians.  Good teamwork pards.

Thanks to Rey & Tony for hosting the event, helping in the collection, photo shoots and scorecards.  You were a big help - great job guys!

Thanks to my co-captains Butch and Jay for helping out in the team composition and tournament guidelines.  This matchplay event is a great prelude to next year's Ryder Cup as the captain's team now has some insights on possible team formation... careful!

And finally, thank you all for your participation.  It was a pleasure organising this event on behalf of the PGC.

Cheers,
Rene
